Assistant System Administrator

The role provides an exciting opportunity for an Assistant System Administrator to join the IT team in a hands-on position and assist in providing support services in relation to planning, design, testing and implementing operating systems across the RBA virtualisation and physical infrastructure. This role will see you undertaking the provisioning, upgrading and performance testing of server operating system environments including virtualization infrastructure. Additionally your day will consist of:

  • Deploying application and operating system patches.
  • Assist with resolving day-to-day server requests at a 2nd and 3rd level.
  • Implementing Microsoft and Red Hat Linux server strategies and standards.
  • Providing support and assistance to senior staff members as required.
  • Producing system documentation complies with all relevant IT Standards.
  • Assisting in the liaison and direction of vendors to facilitate fault resolution and the effective use of products.
  • Undertaking basic procurement and asset management tasks

To be successful in the role we would expect that you would bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience relevant to the position
  • 1-3 years of experience patching servers 
  • Current Industry Accreditations (Microsoft, VMware)
  • Demonstrated experience in installing, configuring and maintaining equipment in a technical environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft or Red Hat server operating systems.
  • Knowledge of server patching products (Lumension will be highly regarded).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Windows Active directory
