IT Security Analyst

The Reserve Bank of Australia pursues national economic policy objectives and undertakes a range of associated activities in financial markets and banking. It also issues Australia's banknotes and operates infrastructure critical to the payments system. Those who are involved in the activities of the Bank have an important role to play in achieving these objectives, whether directly or in a supporting role.

Business Unit:

This role is part of the Corporate Services Group, Information Technology Department.
Corporate Services Group is responsible for effective provision of IT function in supporting the Bank's operations and managing the Bank's properties, security and facility services.
Information Technology Department - responsible for transforming and developing the core IT functions that support the Reserve Bank's policy, operational and corporate objectives.

Role:

The IT Security Analyst plays an important role in assisting in analysing technical security risks/vulnerabilities and their potential impact to the Bank's assets.

You would also be responsible for:

  • Analysing technical security risks/vulnerabilities and suggesting enhancements to existing security products.
  • Learning about new cybercrime threats and their potential impact to the organisation.
  • Performing basic threat and risk assessments for information systems.
  • Researching and reporting relevant IT security issues appropriate to the Bank.
  • Recognising when an IT network/system has been attacked internally, by a remote host, or by malicious code, such as virus, worm or Trojan etc., or when a breach of security has occurred.
  • Some monitoring of security events generated from Intrusion Detection, SIEM, anti-virus tools and applications.
  • Assisting in developing appropriate monitoring rules in the Bank's SIEM solution to proactively identify known security threats and develop procedures to handle them.

Experience:

  • Broad knowledge of Information Security principles and practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various operating systems including Windows, Linux, AIX, Unix, Z/OS and how vulnerabilities affect them.
  • Experience in supporting or monitoring security infrastructure.
  • Log management or SIEM tools experience.
  • Experience with traditional security technologies such as an antivirus, intrusion detection systems to identify and examine potential threats.
  • Experience working with any scripting language like Python, PowerShell, Bash scripting etc
  • Degree qualifications relevant to the Bank or IT industry.
  • Working towards CISSP, CISM (or other industry certifications) or tertiary education specifically related to Information Security would be highly regarded.

This role requires a high level of security clearance. To be eligible to obtain a security clearance Australian citizenship is required.
