Senior Java Developer-9 months FT contract

The Reserve Bank of Australia pursues national economic policy objectives and undertakes a range of associated activities in financial markets and banking. It also issues Australia's banknotes and operates infrastructure critical to the payments system. Those who are involved in the activities of the Bank have an important role to play in achieving these objectives, whether directly or in a supporting role. 

Business Unit:

This role is part of the Corporate Services Group, Information Technology Department.

Corporate Services Group is responsible for effective provision of IT function in supporting the Bank's operations and managing the Bank's properties, security and facility services.

Information Technology Department - responsible for transforming and developing the core IT functions that support the Reserve Bank's policy, operational and corporate objectives.


Design, develop, test, deploy and support for BAU to meet Banking department business requirements.

You would also be responsible for:

  • Analyse, design, develop, test and document application enhancements using agreed enterprise standards, processes and tools to achieve a well-engineered result.
  • Perform systems analysis and design of new systems, undertake the more complex programming tasks and ensure that systems are adequately tested.
  • Work with business stakeholders to identify their current and potential requirements.
  • Support production systems by problem resolution and system enhancement. Includes provision for on call support.
  • Assist in resolving production incidents and associated problems (Permanent Corrective Actions).
  • Ensure all system documentation complies with all relevant IT Standards.
  • Undertake research including evaluation of new software, tools and techniques.
  • Supervise junior development staff.
  • Ensure that system development standards are maintained and participate in code reviews.


  • Proven Java/J2EE development skills.
  • Strong database design and programming skills (JDBC, SQL, stored procedures).
  • Strong working knowledge of the main OS and DB environments (Windows, Linux, SQL Server, Oracle).
  • Strong working knowledge of the Spring Framework and Hibernate.
  • Strong knowledge of XML related standards and technologies.
  • Ability to right quality code with unit and integration tests, as well as to maintain the code coverage using tools (JUnit, SonarQube, Crucible)
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Maven, Artifactory).
  • Have knowledge of source control (Subversion, Git).
  • Experience working with main application servers (tcServer, WAS, WebLogic).
  • Knowledge of authentication and access control systems.
  • Production support experience.
  • Understanding of all aspects of SDLC and experience with Agile methodology.
  • Development skills in front-end technologies and frameworks (AJAX, JavaScript, jQuery, Angular, Bootstrap) are desirable.
  • Experience with TDD and TDD tools (JBehave) is highly desirable.
  • Experience working and configuring ELK stack is highly desirable.
  • IIB experience is desirable.
  • A working knowledge of ITIL practices is desirable.
