IT Traineeship Program

2019 Information Technology Traineeship at the Reserve Bank of Australia

  • 2-year program
  • Sydney CBD location with a hands-on technology focus
  • Gain a formal qualification while completing professional IT work experience

The purpose of the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) Information Technology (IT) Traineeship program is to provide formal and on-the job training, alongside meaningful and rewarding work experience. Offered under the Australian Apprenticeship Scheme, the IT Traineeship is designed to contribute to the development of a highly skilled Australian workforce.

Over the two-year duration of the program, IT Trainees work in a dynamic technical IT operations environment while studying a Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology. Then, guided by experienced professionals, IT Trainees put the skills they learn into practice in a supportive corporate environment.

The program offers an opportunity for IT Trainees to develop essential Information Technology skills as they contribute to a variety of applied technology projects. IT Trainees’ responsibilities combine general IT operational tasks, customer service, and performing first level activities in a variety of IT sections on a rotational basis. IT Trainees will get exposure to Service Desk, Networking, Servers, Security, Operations, and Application Support as part of these rotations.

The RBA are looking for enthusiastic, committed and well-presented candidates with good written and oral communication skills. Candidates need to be collaborative and have strong attention to detail, demonstrated ability to take initiative and to learn tasks quickly. Most importantly, potential IT Trainees will need to demonstrate an interest in the RBA and in developing professional IT skills in a corporate environment.

Applicants must demonstrate a keen drive to succeed in the traineeship and an alignment with a career in IT by either completing their HSC with at least one IT-related subject, or by completing other equivalent studies related to information technology. Evidence of an interest in IT, in computer programming, in building or networking computers, or in using professional IT tools at home and/or during work experience placements would be a significant advantage.

Traineeship positions are ideally suited to recent school leavers who have completed the HSC or equivalent. Due to program requirements, candidates are ineligible if they have completed any previous qualification at a level higher than Certificate II.

How to Apply
