Economist

A role is available for an experienced Economist to join the RBA’s Economic Analysis Department to contribute to the assessment of economic conditions and formulation of policy.

To help understand trends in the economy, the RBA has a long-standing business liaison program focused on gathering qualitative information from a broad range of private and public organisations. The information collected under this program helps the Bank to monitor cyclical and structural developments within the Australian economy.

Reporting to the Senior Representative, we have an exciting opening for an experienced Economist to join our Adelaide office and undertake liaison and economic analysis as part of this program. The role provides a great opportunity to represent the RBA within the South Australian economics and business community, acquire policy-relevant industry insights, and further develop critical-thinking and communication skills.

You responsibilities will include:

  • Meeting with senior officers in a range of private and public organisations to gather qualitative information about local economic conditions and issues
  • Conducting research and analysis of regional and industry issues
  • Providing expert advice to management derived from analysis and research activities
  • Facilitating close communication with Head Office in Sydney and other State Offices

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, preferably with honours in economics
  • Familiarity with theoretical issues relevant to macroeconomics
  • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally both in writing and orally
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to synthesise qualitative data into meaningful information to support macroeconomic analysis
  • An interest in operating in an externally facing capacity within the RBA
