The RBA is seeking a suitably qualified researcher for the position of Senior Research Economist in Sydney. The Senior Research Economist role focuses on conducting and publishing self-directed, policy-oriented research and providing advice on policy issues. The position features significant autonomy in conducting policy-relevant analysis related to the research agenda of the central bank. 

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct, individually or as part of a small team, technically oriented research of relevance to the department and Bank.
  • Keep up to date with theoretical and technical developments in relevant areas of economics, which would usually include macroeconomics, econometrics and monetary theory in particular.
  • Supervise and develop staff to achieve their objectives and potential.
  • Maintain, where appropriate, contacts with the academic community in order to keep up with academic developments, obtain feedback on research, disseminate the results of research and assist the department in its recruitment activities.
  • Attend seminars and present papers as required.
  • Participate in regular policy discussions and, as required, assist in the group's regular forecasting rounds.

Skills and Experience

A doctorate qualification with a focus on monetary policy, empirical macroeconomics, financial markets or financial sector issues is required. Policy-focused research experience and an interest in Australian macroeconomic policy issues would be highly desirable. Candidates must demonstrate strong technical, analytical, and written and oral communication skills. Resourcefulness, creativity and the ability to debate, influence and provide advice on a range of issues are also highly desirable.
