Senior Analyst – Financial Market Infrastructure

This role is part of the Financial System Group, within our Payments Policy Department. Financial System Group supports the Reserve Bank's role in payments system policy, including policy in relation to clearing and settlement (CS) facilities.

Payments Policy Department is responsible for developing and implementing the Reserve Bank's payments system policy. It provides analysis and advice to the Payments System Board on improving the safety and efficiency of the payments system. The Department is also responsible for supervision of Australia's CS facilities and represents the Bank on the international Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI). As a Senior Analyst you will carry out analysis and develop subject matter expertise in support of the Bank's policy development and oversight/supervisory responsibilities in relation to financial market infrastructures (FMIs). The role requires extensive stakeholder management including with ASIC and the FMIs the Bank has responsibility for.

Major responsibilities:

  • Analyse aspects of the design & operation of FMIs, including to support assessments in areas of particular regulatory priority
  • Assess changes to FMIs' policies, processes and analyse other material developments
  • Contribute to the preparation of formal assessments of systemically important payment systems and licensed CS facilities
  • Support the Department's contributions to broad FMI policy development, both domestically and internationally
  • Undertake research on matters relevant to the design and operation of FMIs, and the systemic role of FMIs in the financial system

Skills and Experience

  • An honours degree or equivalent in economics, finance or a related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of FMI’ role, design & operation, and especially FMIs' risk management practices
  • A working knowledge of the Australian financial system
  • An ability to prepare written reports and make verbal presentations with clarity
  • An ability to work towards tight deadlines
  • Outstanding interpersonal and strong communication skills
