Do work that makes a difference

In line with the Bank’s vision to be a world-leading central bank, Audit is similarly aspiring to deliver world class services to the Audit Committee and Executive team of this important Australian institution.  This completely redesigned role will have accountability for developing agile Audit Plans, liaising with Risk and Compliance to ensure Audit is responding to emerging risks and, with Audit’s managers, lead the delivery of the Plan.  Key to your success will be your ability to work with Audit’s new DA team to deliver data driven insights across the array of the Bank’s functions, and, with Audit’s new role of risk culture manager, help to develop the Bank’s risk culture. 

You will be looking to challenge yourself with a move to a function that benchmarks itself against leading central and commercial banks. You will join at an important point in the Bank’s development as it seeks to implement its new strategic plan and continues to address the impact of the pandemic on the Australian economy. 

The primary focus of the role will be to oversee the direction of much of Audit, while leading and developing individuals and teams to achieve goals and deliver RBA outcomes. Provide the leadership and oversight to ensure Audit delivers high quality outcomes and fosters staff engagement. Help shape the department’s strategic direction and continuously improve the function in line with best practice and recommendations from the QAIP.

As part of the team you will:

  • Provide independent and objective advice and deliver audit services that contribute to the Bank’s strategic goals, including a planned program of audits in anticipation of client needs and as part of Audit’s Strategic Plan.
  • Lead, guide and develop individuals and teams to stay abreast of trends and best practices in the auditing profession and effectively achieve area outcomes
  • Deliver the changes into the business teams and support their adoption of cutting edge analytical tools and capabilities
  • Manage internal and external relationships and collaborate effectively with key stakeholders. Maintain an effective client relationship programme including identifying and engaging in the right forums.

Your team

You will join a dynamic leadership team that is a mix of promotions from within this high energy, high performance group, recent appointments from other parts of the Bank and new talent.  The Audit Committee and Executive Committee are committed to supporting Audit building out its new model.

Your background

The successful applicant will have:

  • Membership of a professional auditing body (e.g. CA/PMIIA).
  • Experience leading, developing and motivating an audit unit and/or teams, as well as ownership of the execution of functional strategy.
  • Strong leadership skills partnered with the experience of coaching managers at a senior level within the banking and finance industry.
  • Experience in internal audit quality assurance programmes.
  • Advanced knowledge of internal control systems, control design and risk management frameworks
  • Understanding of Bank-wide (or similar organisation) and area-specific policies and processes, and experience in the provision of policy advice, as well as the ability to influence others to accept practices and approaches.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in internal or external auditing underpinned by data analytics within the banking and financial services sector/global professional services firm delivering outsourced internal audit services.
