Exciting new opportunities to help transform

At the Bank we recognise people who want to be part of a team, to be recognised for what they do, and how they help the Australian people. We aren't all about interest rates and the economic policies. We also run complex critical systems that provide disaster relief payments, print bank notes, and ensure that all the other banks can work together to allow us to live our lives.  These systems rely on Technology and after winning awards for our New Payments Platform and establishing near real time settlements, we are now taking the next steps in our technology journey.

About the team

At the RBA, Platform Engineering is key to automating the way in which we deploy, manage, govern, and destroy our systems as they move through their lifecycle.  Working with other teams, Platform Engineering has established a set of platforms to deliver on a number of large programs of work as well as break in to new areas of technology in the cloud and containerisation.

Platform Engineering is made up of small teams of 6 or 7 engineers who work on a project or an area of BAU.  Our team members receive training to grow in the areas they are less knowledgeable in, as well as opportunities to move between teams to get more diverse experience and broaden their skills.  Each team has a lead who answers to the Manager of Platform Engineering.

Multiple Roles

3 Platform Engineers - IT Infrastructure as Code and Task Automation Project

  • The project is set to revamp how we automate the delivery and management of our virtual infrastructure on premise and set the foundation for IaaS.
  • We can already deploy the virtual infrastructure for an entire system at the click of a button, however we now want to take that further with more integrations to better manage, govern, and decommission more efficiently with no human intervention.
  • Become everyone in IT's best friend by automating the manual operational tasks that clog up ticket queues for other IT teams.  These will be offered as Self Service through our new Service Management Platform.

About you

Platform Engineering is part of the wider IT Infrastructure team and helps support those teams, so ideally you'll have a background in IT Infrastructure.

  • You'll be the sort of person who prefers to write a script instead of manual repetitive tasks.
  • You'll have a mindset that challenges through intelligent enquiry, yet accepts some things can't change as we are a regulated entity.
  • You like working in small teams with Agile ways of working.
  • You are enthusiastic about change, and want to help make things better.
  • You look to complete tasks the right way, not necessarily the fastest or easiest way.
  • You are innovative and creative.

Skills & Expertise required

  • Experience with VMware and infrastructure automation and orchestration tools such as vRealize Automation
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, Bash, JavaScript.
  • Experience working with API's
  • Experience working in Scrum teams.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD patterns using GIT, JIRA, Azure DevOps Server.
  • Working knowledge of operating systems and IT infrastructure (Windows, Linux, virtual machines).

Your development & career

We recognise that you may only know some of the technologies we use at the Bank.  That is why we will work with you to fill any knowledge gaps and provide training where necessary to ensure you can fulfil your role.  Platform Engineering as well as the Bank has job progression pathways to ensure each team member has the opportunity to explore and grow their career at the Bank.

Team members get to explore technology, products, and services with the wider Platform Engineering team, regularly crossing over and contributing where they can.

We have great office spaces with a new building refit underway in Sydney CBD, as well as offering flexible working and remote working for part of the working week.
