Do work that makes a difference

As the Head of Payments Policy you will be responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and management of the Payments Policy team within the Financial System Group.

Reporting into the Assistant Governor - Financial System Group, you will inspire, guide and enable a team of people to define and deliver on the both the department and organisational strategy. You will lead and develop the Payments Policy team to achieve organisational goals and deliver organisational outcomes, whilst being accountable for the performance and the provision of high level policy advice relevant to the Reserve Bank's functions.

Your team

Our Payments Policy is a team of ~40, in which the Head of Payments Policy role has 2 direct reports.

Financial System Group supports the Reserve Bank's role in payments system policy and its broad responsibilities for financial system stability.

Payments Policy Department provides analysis and advice to the Payments System Board on improving competition in, and efficiency and safety of, the payments system, and implements the Board’s policies. The Department is also responsible for oversight of Australia's licenced clearing and settlement facilities. It represents the Bank on various international groups, including the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI) at the Bank for International Settlements.

Your background

We’re seeking an ambitious and driven leader to continue to lead the Payments Policy function and its key initiatives and deliverables. Your thought leadership combined with your strong stakeholder management skills, resilience, leadership and personable nature will help set you up for success in this key senior Bank leadership role.

To be successful in this critical role you will possess;

  • Strong experience in analysing financial and economic issues with advanced knowledge and understanding of the Australian economy, financial markets and system
  • Strong people leadership, coaching and mentoring skills to develop team members
  • Adaptability, with proven success of driving key business outcomes, with experience managing a team in a diverse and complex environment, as you will play a crucial role in the culture of the team and the Bank
  • Strong interpersonal skills to negotiate, influence, and communicate strongly with key stakeholders across the bank and externally
  • The ability to think innovatively and strategically that complements your strong analytical, and risk management abilities
  • Strong research and advisory capability, coupled with proven ability to develop policy proposals
  • Relevant academic and professional qualifications.
